Another solo back country trip
I explored the third of three valleys in the Mt. Huron area September 4,5 Previously I had been up to Lake Ann (beautiful!) and Harrison Flat (treeless). This time I went up to the base of the Three Apostles. This was Labor Day weekend and it was reasonable to assume that this area would be as crowded as nearby Lake Ann and Harrison Flat but I actually saw only two day hikers while here. I guess that the only people who normally go up there are climbers and, lucky for me, there were no climbers up there this weekend.
I headed to the Trail Head after work on Friday and began hiking in the dark. The last photo in this posting is of some deer that I saw off to the side of the trial. All you can see in the photo is the reflection of their eyes - both from my headlamp and from the camera's flash.
The trail was pretty wild with lots of downed trees to negotiate. Wild flowers are mostly gone by now but I did see a ton of mushrooms. I wish I knew which ones were edible as many of them looked delicious.
The weather was so perfect and warm that this trip was almost routine. There's gotta be a reason I actually like adversity in my outdoor adventures.

Peter, I think I just want to print that first photo and frame it. It looks so beautiful out there...
